Although not the first film to feature a junkyard on a different planet, this film the first to feature snakes on a junkyard on a different planet. The snakes weren't used to the harsh alien atmosphere and so needed to be fitted with their own respirators when not filming. The film employed two expert snake handlers on set; Jimmy the Asp, and Peter "that's not my" Python. Both were paid handsomely for their work, and they became the "go to" snake guys for all subsequent films most recently working on Snakes on a Plane. Coincidentally, that is not set on another planet.
