The first fighting scene was complicated to film because the actors didn't learn the choreography together. The rehearsals were done apart, with the male actors in London and Theron in Los Angeles. When they were put together for the first time to shoot the scene, some adjustments had to be made. According to Matthias Schoenaerts, they spent a week shooting it. Over 3000 shots were use to compile the scene.
