Some viewers pointed out that outside of working two jobs to help Robert continue his work on his invention while they were married, Melinda didn't have any real goals for herself in life, even after she divorced Robert. Unlike Robert, who has goals for himself and kept going in order to find success for himself and her with his goals, Melinda hadn't shown nor spoken of any goals she personally had. This most likely partially explains why she was still so obsessed with Robert and the promises he made to her when they were younger. She was slowly growing bitter and jealous after seeing that his goals had finally given him success and when he had given the life he previously promised her to Diana. However, she (Melinda) didn't realize until it was too late that she forfeited her chance of that life when she rejected and divorced him after jumping to conclusions.
