Singer and actor David Bowie was originally attached to the production in a music capacity, but, according to Dave Laing at the 'I Like Your Old Stuff' website, he ''had apparently disagreements with the producers and disengaged.'' David Stratton in his book 'The Avocado Plantation: Boom and Bust in the Australian Film Industry' (1990) wrote that ''producers Alex Cutler and Michael Wilcox . . . discovered David Bowie was quite interested in it and persuaded him to write the music, but he later dropped out, pleading pressure of other work.''
