John pours wax on a cassette tape. In Saw IV - Il gioco continua (2007), it's revealed that he was coating the cassette tape in order for it to be easier to swallow and be protected against his stomach acid, since it would be discovered in his stomach during an autopsy, allowing him to continue his work after he dies.
