Miramax, the studio that released the film internationally, was owned by Disney at the time of the film's release. Following several sales, a minority stake is now held by Paramount Pictures, which was the first media company to produce a screen adaptation of Superman - the 1940s cartoons from Fleischer Studios and Famous Studios. Paramount's involvement in Superman did not end there, an episode of "The Brady Kids", an animated spin-off of Paramount's "The Brady Bunch", featured a guest appearance from Superman. Paramount then gained the US TV rights to the third and fourth Superman films, the 1984 "Supergirl" film, and the "Superboy" TV series after merging with Viacom; only "Superman IV"'s TV rights continue to be held by Paramount.
