At one point in the film the tanks pass trees beside the road upon which people are hanging with signs posted, the work being attributed to the Schutzstaffel, or SS. One clearly reads "Ich wollte meine kinder nicht kämpfen lassen;" which translates to English "I did not want my children to fight." Elsewhere someone has mistranslated this sign and stated it mentioned the word war. That is "krieg" in German, and does not appear on the sign. Since the war is going on everywhere around the viewer, it is a foregone conclusion.
