The song was written by guitarist Jerry Cantrell about his father's experiences in Vietnam (Rooster was Jerry Cantrell, Sr.'s nickname), and the opening line, "Ain't found a way to kill me yet" parallels the movie from John Connor's perspective, with the machines as yet unsuccessful in their numerous attempts to kill him.
