The screenplay took about ten years of gestation which included about twenty drafts, all of which were finally abandoned and a fresh new script written. "I just sat down and wrote it in three weeks, not referring to anything I'd written prior", said screenwriter Bill Bennett. But the premise did not change through this time. Bennett had always been toying with the notion that we don't know each other as well as we think. Close friends, even lovers, may have secrets we never discover; they may be capable of things we never imagined.
