The third film in the series where the lead actress is attacked by the Fisherman at the end of the movie in a way that makes the audience think that she has been killed. In the first movie, the Fisherman jumps through a glass shower door to attack Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt) then the movie cuts to black. In the second movie, the Fisherman grabs Julie by the feet and pulls her under the bed in her home then the movie cuts to black. In the third movie, Amber Williams (Brooke Nevin) stops her Jeep along a lone highway, the movie cuts to black and the sound of the hook slashing is heard, likely killing Amber.
