Rowlf the dog, the character whom Jim Henson felt closest to, had played an important part in all Muppet productions up to this point. As a suitable replacement voice actor had not been found, the dog only has a non-speaking cameo in the film. Bill Barretta debuted as the voice of Rowlf in Muppets Tonight: Garth Brooks (1996).
