Natalie Wood, playing the younger version of Virginia Mayo's character, Helena, had her dark hair bleached in order to more closely resemble Mayo. Also, since Mayo had blue eyes, Wood wore contact lenses for her earliest scenes, but, finding them uncomfortable, soon abandoned them, filming most of her role with her brown eyes on display.
