Unbeknownst to them at the time, the Earp brothers and Clanton brothers were blood cousins, generational descendants of John William Marshall 1471-1530 and Agnes Custer 1470-1543. The Earps were their 11th great grandchildren by way of their mother, Virginia Ann Cooksey. The Clantons were their 10th great grandchildren by way of their father, Newman Haynes Clanton. 21 year old Marion Morrison (John Wayne) met 80 year old Wyatt Earp on the set of a John Ford film. Marion is also the 12th great grandson of John and Agnes.
