The scene when Rey hears the Jedi voices during the battle with the Emperor is an idea that originated with George Lucas. In an early script draft for Il ritorno dello Jedi (1983), Lucas had the Force ghosts for Obi-Wan and Yoda create a shield around Luke to deflect the Emperor's lightning. Lucas abandoned this concept, but the notion of hearing Jedi voices has appeared in other films throughout the series, including Guerre stellari (1977) and Star Wars: Episodio II - L'attacco dei cloni (2002).Some fan theories speculate that it wasn't even the real Jedi ghost in IX, but rather Darth Sidious imitating his voice in Rey's head. Just like Sidious imitates Snoke and Anakin's voice as Darth Vader in the beginning of the film, telling: "I have been every voice in your head" to Kylo Ren.
