Tommy Lee Jones reportedly told Joe Pantoliano, "It's not like anyone is going to win any awards for this film." However, the movie was eventually nominated for 7 Academy Awards and 3 Golden Globes, with Jones himself ironically winning both the Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Supporting Role for this film. Harrison Ford was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Actor, but lost to Tom Hanks for his performance in Philadelphia (1993).
