Upon being offered the leading role, Bill Bixby had some reservations about doing an adaptation of a superhero character for TV as he felt it would be ridiculous. At the same time, the actor had a script for a historical TV mini series, for which he was also offered. However upon reading the script for "The Incredible Hulk" pilot episode, Bill Bixby had grown more enthusiastic and decided to play David Banner.
