When director Tony Scott was attached to the movie, Scott wanted to cast Philip Anglim as the Starman, and in true Scott fashion, he was more interested in style than the film's story and its narrative momentum. Anglim, on the other hand, went on to portray an alien on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993). The role of Bareil Antos, the Vedek (deputy spiritual minister) of planet Bajor.
