Damien's dream sequence when he imagines seeing his deceased mother is very similar (in tone) to Rosemary's dream sequence when the black mass ritual is taking place; and she imagines seeing the pope and being on that strange ship and then the stranger crawling on top of her. Friedkin is clearly referencing Rosemary's Baby in this scene.
