This movie along with Independence Day (1996) is one of two separate film franchises in which the first movie of their respected series, directed by Roland Emmerich, was successful, but their respective sequels, though, Emmerich also directed Independence Day - Rigenerazione (2016), either became made-for-TV films, became box office bombs, or released straight to DVD or Bluray.
