This film's title may have been inspired by a remark Bette Davis famously made to Jack Paar when Whatever Happened to Baby Jane (in which Davis co-starred with Joan Crawford) became an unexpected box office hit. Discussing how the film came to be made, Davis claimed Warners studio boss Jack Warner, when first pitched the project, had remarked, "I wouldn't pay a nickel to see either one of those two old broads!"
