While the film was set up at Paramount, Zack Snyder was initially considered as director after Darren Aronofsky left, while Jon Favreau was also considered, but Snyder initially turned down in favor of focusing on 300 (2006), and Paul Greengrass was hired. When Paramount placed the project into turnaround, and after Warner Bros. reacquired the rights, Zack Snyder was rehired as director, making it his next project after 300 (2006).
