Paddington Bear originates from "darkest Peru", which could mean he is a spectacled bear, the only extant species of bear native to South America. Most editions of the Paddington books illustrate him to resemble that species. However, Paddington's species is identified in this movie as Ursa marmaladus ("marmalade bear"), a fictional species.
