Joe Pantoliano (Cosmo Renfro) admitted in an interview on Gilbert Gottfried's podcast that he wanted to be sure his character lived in case there was a sequel. He even did additional groaning and leg movements to showcase that he survived at the end. It worked, as he was in the sequel, U.S. Marshals - Caccia senza tregua (1998).
