When the little boy throws a book onto the stack in the beginning of the film, the title is shown as "The Moon and Sixpence." The book's story shares an interesting parallel to Fahrenheit 451. The story follows a successful stockbroker named Charles Strickland who decides to abandon his life and his family in pursuit of being an artist. Strickland is obsessed with creating a magnum opus for the world to love and devour, but is largely unsuccessful. Years later Strickland moved to Tahiti and found his passion for his work, becoming quite prolific. However he dies of leprosy. Before his death, he finishes what he considered his finest work as a mosaic in a hut he was living in. But rather than share it with the world, he told his wife to burn the hut down, allowing no future generations to experience his finest piece.
