After the hotel desk clerk rattles off Kay Kyser's room numbers, Lulu cries out "Sold, American!". This is a reference to radio ads for the American Tobacco Company and its Lucky Strike cigarette brand that featured a tobacco auctioneer chant that ended with "Sold, Amercian!", meaning the company only bought the best tobacco for its cigarettes.
