While Mallory, Miller, Jensen and Nicolai, now played by Robert Shaw, Edward Fox, Philip Latham and Franco Nero replacing Gregory Peck, David Niven, James Robertson Justice and Tutte Lemkow, are the only characters from the original Guns of Navarone, there are last names held over from the original for new characters: Richard Harris had played a character named Barnsby, which is Harrison Ford's name; and Michael Trubshawe played Weaver, the name of Carl Weathers' character.
