Mexican actor Rafael Amaya (Aurelio Casillas) also plays the same character in the Netflix series Regina del sud (2016) and the Telemundo series Señora Acero (2014) and El Chema (2016), his character being based on real-life drug lord Amado Carrillo Fuentes who was known as "The Lord of the Skies" because of the fleet of planes he used to transport drugs. Fuentes died in a Mexican hospital in July 1997 after undergoing extensive plastic surgery in an attempt to alter his appearance.
