The late actor Dustin Diamond (Screech from Bayside School (1989)) auditioned for and originally won the role of Flounder. Shortly after, he found out he lost the part after the producers didn't like the fact that he was simultaneously on a children's sitcom. They took the role away from him and gave it to Jason Marin.
