Some of the animals' names are related to the Hindi words for their species. Baloo comes from Bhaaloo, Hathi from haathee and Kaa is a Hindi onomatopoeia for a snake's hiss. Interestingly, Bagheera is from baagh which means "tiger" and Shere Khan means something like "chief of tigers".
