Sir Wilfrid Roberts' arrangement of tablets is a metaphoric representation of his mind and the case. Initially, after Janet MacKenzie's statement where he proves her wrong, it seems that the verdict is almost done and Sir Wilfrid has won this case. The tablets are perfectly arranged in a rectangular shape. It is as if all the pieces fit perfectly, the case has almost been resolved, and everything is dead perfect. However, in the next scene, a fresh twist occurs; Christine is called as a witness, and just before her introduction, the tablets are disarranged, indicative of the disorder that is about to come.
