Mark tells Marnie of an insect in Kenya (using the characteristically British mispronunciation, "keen-ya") named the flatid. This is a group of clustering insects whose upward-folded wings appear in a range of bright colors according to subspecies. They group together on a tree branch in a way that resembles the blossoms on a bougainvillea. They are native to various areas of Africa including Madagascar.
