Lieutenant Eckhardt's surname was not new to the Batman universe. In the original Detective Comics, the name of Harvey Dent's (Two-Face's) (failed) plastic surgeon was Dr. Eckhart. Coincidentally, the actor who played Harvey Dent (Two-Face) in Il cavaliere oscuro (2008), is named Aaron Eckhart.
