One of the native American actors criticized the film as being inaccurate and insulting because the Dunbar character presumptuously, "taught the Indians to fight." This claim was bogus because Dunbar did not teach them how to fight but how to operate a piece of machinery (a rifle) which up to that point had never been used by the native band in the story.
