In the opening sequence, David names himself after looking at a replica of the statue of David by Michaelangelo, a famous work of art from Renaissance times done in the style of ancient Greco-Roman statues. It is said that the design for the 'Engineers' in Prometheus (2012) was modeled after such works of art, as well.
