Story elements in the Vienna sequences frequently spoofed Carol Reed's classic black-and-white film noir movie Il terzo uomo (1949) which included the Cafe Mozart, a bearded street vendor, and the zither music. Also when Harold first appears in Vienna, he does so by climbing out of a sewer manhole.
