During her escape on the Starkiller base, Rey overhears a conversation between two storm-troopers who discuss the new "BT-17", which is a reference to the first movie Guerre stellari (1977), where Obi-Wan Kenobi overhears two storm-troopers having a similar conversation about the new BT-16 while disabling the tractor beam on the Death Star. George Lucas felt that the film was too derivative from his original Star Wars and he didn't enjoy these constant winks.
