Though never referred to in the script, the green ghost the guys bust in the hotel was called "Onionhead" by the crew, because of its horrid smell. A scene where the ghost haunts two newlyweds showed the characteristic, but was cut. Contrary to popular belief, the name "Slimer" is not used in the film and was created for the The Real Ghostbusters - I veri acchiappafantasmi (1986) cartoon, based off Venkman's line in the film: "He slimed me". The ghost was only ever referred to as "Onionhead" and the "Ghost of John Belushi" by the cast and crew before the creation of the cartoon.
