Dario Marianelli, a collaborator on Joe Wright's films and the Academy Award-winning composer of Espiazione (2007) and V per Vendetta (2005), was Wright's original choice to compose the music for Pan - Viaggio sull'isola che non c'è (2015). However, a Warner Bros. executive may have found Marianelli's completed music unsatisfactory and inadequate and was dropped out of the production. Wright eventually replaced Marianelli with John Powell, who is best known for his universally acclaimed and Academy Award-nominated score for Dragon Trainer (2010).
