The ward sister is referred to as "Sister Clodagh", the same name as the nun played by Deborah Kerr in the 1947 film. "Black Narcissus" is also referenced in the person of the nurse Flora Byron, whose name combines those of Flora Robson and Kathleen Byron, two actresses in the earlier film.
