Albert returns to the apartment only to get his toothbrush, as he says it is all he'll need where he is going. In The Graduate (also directed by Mike Nichols), Benjamin's only piece of luggage is a toothbrush when he stays at the hotel for the first time (with Mrs. Robinson).
