Automobile windshields do not break that way. (Side and back windows, made of tempered glass, do break that way, but not nearly that easily.) Windshields are made of triplex safety glass, with two layers of glass with a clear adhesive layer between. When windshield glass breaks, it breaks like regular window glass, but the layer in between keeps the pieces from flying apart.
