Succinylcholine, also known as Suxamethonium chloride, is depolarizing neuromuscular blocker. It is rapid IV onset of less than minute and a duration of 5- 10 minutes in most individuals. It works to depolarize the nerve cells at the neuromuscular junction causing rapid flaccid paralysis which results in the user being unable to move and breath. Although this is portrayed accurately in the movie, there is no know antidote. Even if there could be one found, once the drug has had its effect of paralysis, the only way to have termination of effect is for the drug to be metabolized and for the body to recover in 5- 10 minutes (which before then would also require medical interventions to assist with breathing).
