As the moon passes close by the earth, objects such as cars, small children, and large chunks of land are pulled up into the air by its gravity. This could occur only if the gravitational pull of the moon was greater than the gravitational pull of the earth. But gravity at the earth's surface is six times larger than that at the moon's surface, and based on its apparent size in the sky, the moon appears to be still a few thousand miles away when this occurs, so its pull would be even weaker.
