"Rodge" assumed that the Dew'd Crew climbed into the elevator shaft with no real reason, and after he just glanced into the (wrong) elevator without looking carefully enough to see if it was even possible to access the shaft from inside the elevator, and when it would have been a lot more likely that they just got off on another floor.
