Doc Brown considers visiting the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration was not signed on July 4, 1776. It was printed and distributed on that date. The actual signing happened later. Furthermore, Doc would have ended up in California rather than Philadelphia in 1776; without highways or railroads, he would have had no feasible way to get to Philadelphia to witness the signing.
