There are many anachronisms in 'The Sandlot,' but probably none as glaring as the fact that the obviously black, James Earl Jones character could never have challenged any record of Babe Ruth -- as stated in the movie -- due to the sad historical fact that Major League Baseball remained segregated until the 1947 season when Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier as a Brooklyn Dodger. The record book on Babe Ruth was, of course, completed and closed a dozen years earlier when he retired from the Majors in 1935.
