At the chop-shop, when Axel is pretending to be a customer, he refers to his unmarked Chevrolet Caprice as a Buick. While he may have just innocently said a different make for whatever reason, it stands to reason that any chop-shop operator would know the difference between and Chevrolet and a Buick, and therefore would have not taken him very seriously, putting his operation at risk because he was not convincing enough in his "act".
