When Damien rides his bike and knocks Katherine from the stool, she falls over the balcony. However, the stool is not high enough or near enough to the railings for her to topple over the balcony. Also, the speed and angle of her fall would not have enabled her to grab onto the balusters the way she did as she fell head first.
