The story takes place in Los Angeles, California. Many police vehicles and emergency vehicles are seen without a solid red light when they have their emergency lights on, except for the motorcycle that Riggs drives during the freeway chase scene which has a solid red light. According to the California vehicle code, all police and emergency vehicles in California are required to have at least one solid red light when the emergency lights are on facing forward.
