Some of Lee and Evelyn's behavior is completely unrealistic given the situation that they're in. Beau's death, for example, could have been prevented easily if they had simply monitored his actions more closely, e.g. by not allowing him to wander around the store unsupervised/not leaving him there alone, or by using the common-sense strategy of one parent in front for recon and one in the back to keep an eye on everyone.
